This tree was conceived by a man named Andrew as a commissioned work for his girlfriend, Melissa. He had specific ideas of what he wanted, and was an active part of the creative process, including his idea to extend the tree branches onto the mat. I would fax him the progress and he would text his thoughts, as we refined an idea into a beautiful original Christmas gift. I admit that I spent more time thinking about how to do this piece than I actually spent drawing it, but the bottom line is, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without Andrew’s belief that I had it in me. He said that when Melissa opened it she burst into tears when she recognized it for what it was. What greater gift could an artist receive?
While the Melissa Tree is a one and only, I am happy to attempt any and all ideas you might have out there because, without Andrew, this cool piece of art would not exist.
