Even Silence Speaks

ORIGINAL AVAILABLE

The Hausa are a Sahelian people chiefly located in the West African region of Nigeria. I didn’t know that when I searched for words to describe this piece.  I chose the Hausa Proverb “Even silence speaks” because when I took this photo there was not a twig, not a creature, not a wisp of wind, not an identifiable sound present.  But I felt like I could hear snow melting and shadows creeping and trees stretching and even the air around me breathing as the increasingly warm sun of March tried to chase away winter in a moment so still I could hear my own heart.
