The origins of bedtime storytelling are as old as time. Before the invention of writing, stories were memorized and passed along orally from generation to generation. Bedtime stories ease children (and adults) from the hectic daylight hours to the quieter time of night. I have many fond memories of reading to my own 3 children, who always tried to choose the longest possible picture books to stretch out the storytime or better yet, convince me to read 3 stories, one for each of them.
I don’t believe that those quiet, captivating, comforting, wonderful moments should be limited to humans.
