After The Purple Rain

ORIGINAL SOLD

When my children were young and trying to create something, I used to tell them “there ‘s no such thing as a mistake…you just have to change direction to accomodate”.   As a self taught artist, I’ve made a whole mess of “mistakes”, and sometimes no matter what direction I go I can’t salvage the  drawing.  On a good day,  I cut it up and use the parts.  This piece was a good mistake.  It’s impossible to make mud with rose and blue, but when I spilled a huge splat of water in the middle of the paper, I forced myself to walk away and let the paint go where it wanted.  For a detailed, disciplined ink artist, that’s harder than you think.  When I went back later, I decided not to change anything, I just added tiny trees with my tiny brush.

Prince sang about purple rain.  Rain can be dismal and cold, but it can also cleanse and renew…and if rain really were purple, this would be the mist that rises from it, wafting between the trees…. swallowing the air… and giving me a refreshing look at a splat of water in the middle of my drawing.

Another serendipitous masterpiece! With a title like that, I couldn’t help but love it. I look forward to each new canvas you fill. Thank you! – Purple ; )

Not everyone loves winter, but I have come to appreciate its stillness. It is the time of year when I do most of my creating and have time to read, read, read. This painting reminds me of the beauty and peace of winter–the quiet time of listening for new ideas.

Wendy Rose alerted me to your website and described you as not only a talented artist but a savvy entrepreneur who is figuring out how to market herself well. I work with aspiring artists and I know how demanding the path toward economic well being is. One of your secrets, I think, is your skill as a writer — the pieces you write about your drawings are delightful to read and just pull you in.
