June 26th was the kick-off day of my 2010 show season at the Saco Sidwalk Art Festival. The exciting start of this show for me was loading my brand new Honda Fit hatchback, which I had owned for approximately 12 hours before I headed down to Saco at 4:30 am. Compact from the outside, I felt like I was unloading a clown car as my tent, weights, bins, racks, and “stuff” emerged out of the back and expanded onto the sidewalk. Full of optimism, and with the same friendly neighbor Chris Griffith of Great Moose Aerial Art (www.GreatMooseAerialArt.com) as last year, we opened our “doors” at 9 am to a steady stream of people. It soon became apparent that the steady stream of people were lookers, not buyers, because obviously all the buyers went to the beach in the 90+ degree heat. It was obvious by noon that this was not going to be the motherload, but I met a lot of great people, heard some good tree stories, and still managed to pull in a decent amount of cash by the end of the day. Thank goodness I sell cards! Next weekend is the two day festival in Bath….on to bigger venues and, hopefully, people with looser pockets.
